Joining the celebration of this new life, Master Fine Art Photographer Marlene Neumann visited Inkwenkwezi just days after the birth and was invited to photograph the young calf. With her long-standing connection to the reserve and its founders, the moment was filled with meaning. “The land of Inkwenkwezi is sacred in our area – it’s more than a game reserve. There’s something mysterious about it, and a humble beauty that it emanates,” saysMarlene, who had recently completed a healing retreat on the property with her students.
“The birth of a rhino carries the symbolism of strength and courage, of surviving in the face of adversity. Inkwenkwezi is very close to my heart. It’s family.”
Her photographs of the calf capture a quiet dignity and hope – adding a creative dimension to the story of ecological recovery.
